Water Project at Maules Creek Coal

MAULES CREEK COAL CONSTRUCTION WATER PROJECT—WHITEHAVEN COAL

This project required the design, supply and installation of over 11kms of PE100 Pipe for the purpose of providing construction water to allow development of a new mine site at Maules Creek, near Boggabri, NSW.

As Principal Contractor for the Project, Stripes provided project management, assisted with the final design of the pipeline layout and sourced the appropriate tanks, pumps and telemetry. Stripes supplied and installed all pipe, valves and fittings, tanks, truck fill points and assisted with the design and construction of a 10 ML dam. Bulk earthworks were contracted out to another experienced, local company.

A Shire Road crossing was required, and Stripes completed all necessary applications and obtained the required approvals to complete the road crossing, including traffic management planning.

Full Quality Assurance documents were provided to the client upon practical completion of the project, which included the following:-

  •  As-Built Drawings and Surveys including Process & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs).
  •  Weld Record Sheets
  •  ITPs& Commissioning documentation
  •  Product/Material Compliance Certificates
  •  Tradesmen’s Qualification Records
  •  Service & Operation Manuals for each pump installed

The Maules Creek Coal Project is an environmentally and socially sensitive project, attracting widespread media coverage through the presence of regular protesting actions from both local residents and environmental activists. This presence bought with it unprecedented challenges for our team however the team promptly to adapted to accommodate the challenges faced and continued with works on the Project so as to minimise the delays and keep time performance for the works on target.
